Shyam (Manoj Kumar) lives in the city with this mother (Lalita Pawar). He has come of age, so his mother wants him to get married. She even selects a girl for him, and asks him to go and meet her. shyam reluctantly agrees, and travels by train to see the girl and her parents. During his journey he comes across a con man, Banarsi Prasad (Inder Sen Johar), and his associates (Radha Kishan, and Vijay Dutt). He finds later that the con man and his associates had relieved him of his wallet. He comes across a man, living in a small village, with his daughter (Vijaya Choudhury). On the pretext of helping him, the father imprisons him, with a view of forcing him to marry his dauther. Shyam will have to rely on all his wits to get him out of this situation.
